Preston Perry highlights his Journey of Redemption from Pornography Addiction

On his social media handle, the popular Christian poet and husband to rapper Jackie Hill Perry, Preston shared how he was liberated from pornography addiction through faith and prayer. He this wrote; 

"I questioned whether I should make this post, not because of fear of judgment or shame, but because God has shown that some things shouldn’t be shared with the public. After praying and thinking, I feel led to share. This past July 16th was my 3rd year anniversary of being set free from watching porn. Around five years ago, I fell into pornography heavy. My impatience with God’s sanctification process and complicated relationships led me down a road of unbelief. Instead of running to God for comfort and true intimacy, I began running to a perverted version of intimacy. The thing about pornography is that it can feel like instant gratification. It can feed your lust, take your mind off what you’re going through, and even give you an illusion of closeness and connection. But because, at the very core, it is antichrist and perverted, it only starves our soul, perverts our mind of why God created our bodies and others, and creates distance between us and the God we were made for.

Because of mercy, God showed me that this had become me. He opened my eyes and showed me how far I had drifted from him, and it scared me. I repented and cried out for him to take this thorn from me, and I felt something break inside me. I felt that stronghold loosen it’s grip. Though I had drifted from God, I felt him drawing near me when I cried out for him. I stand today as a living testimony that we can be set free from porn and any other sin if we would cry out to God for him to take it. This trial of sin in my life showed me that God didn’t just save me. But every day, he’s keeping me. He is faithful in finishing the work he began in us if we just come to him for help. Who the son sets free, he is free indeed. Thank you, Jesus."
