5 American CHH Rappers of Nigerian Descent

Nigerians stand out wherever they are so the HHHH editorial decided to compile a list of top American artists of Naija descent. Enjoy

1. Moses Uvere
The Dallas, Texas-born rapper of Nigerian descent is the first child of Patience and Gabriel Uvere, immigrants who went to America to seek “the American Dream.”

Even though Moses Uvere doesn't like to be tagged as a Christian rapper, his music is 100% legit and he is unashamed of talking about his faith in his music.
"I’m not going to hide the fact that I believe Jesus is the living God. I’m not going to hide that fact, but I don’t need to be categorized as a Christian rapper because I believe in Jesus. There isn’t a category for Muslim rappers. There isn’t a category for Buddhist rappers. There isn’t a category for Hindu rappers. Why is there a category for Christian rappers?...." the rapper said in an interview.

Moses Uvere has dropped albums like; From Worse to Better, Mind the Gap, Never Been Better and the most recent, Kingdom of the Fallen which reached the top 100 of the iTunes charts and landed him the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Klyde Warren Park being the first Christian rap artist in its history to be invited as a headliner.
The outstanding rapper is married with two kids and is the lead pastor of Vine of Life in Garland, Texas, USA.

2. Wande
Mutiat Yewande Isola professionally known as Wande is a Nigerian American actress, Christian rapper, A&R administrator and former journalist from Austin, Texas.

Wande worked as an A and R for Atlanta-based Christian record label Reach Records owned by Lecrae Moore before getting signed as its first female artist in 2019.
Wande got the attention of the world with her debut "Exit" EP, singles "Happy" and "Be the Light" and sophomore EP The Decision which was released on 20th December 2020.

Wande was born in a Nigerian Muslim family but her mother was Christian. She speaks Yoruba fluently.

Wande converted to Christianity in 7th grade while attending a camp in Columbus, Texas in 2009, a decision which didn't sit well with her Muslim family.

In an interview with the Christian Post Wande confessed that,

"The first few years of when I was saved it
was very difficult and there was a lot of tension in our home.

I had to wake up at 5 a.m. to read my Bible in secret, go to work with my mom every other Sunday so my uncle could take me to church and even had to keep my baptism a secret with only my mom knowing.

Throughout my life, however, God has been faithful, so it left my family to have no choice but to respect the God I serve and know He’s powerful."

In an interview on 20th March 2020, Wande revealed that she and her father have made peace over her conversion and her decision to pursue a hip-hop music career.

Wande is married to Darius Dees

Despite being born to a Christian family, he didn't take his faith seriously until the sudden passing of his dear friend at 15 which made him stop playing church and get serious about God.
